Gantz

Gantz is a Manga of Hiroya Oku published since 2000.

This manga is published in France by the editor Tonkam. In June 2007, 19 volumes were appeared in France (20th being envisaged for on September 5th, 2007), 21 with the Japan (still in progress). A book gathering of the infos on the characters, the comparisons Manga/Animated and an interview of the team of the manga also left at the end of June - running July 2006 under the name of Gantz Manual. A Anime also exists.

Synopsis

Kei Kurono is a high-school pupil of Tokyo. One day, whereas it awaits its subway, with a friend of childhood (Masaru Katô) which it had lost sight of the fact and which was by chance at the station, it is thorough to make a heroic gesture: to save a homeless person fallen on the ways. But this rescue does not proceed perfectly, and soon the lives of Kurono and Katô go basculer.
They are found in a part in the center of which a strange black sphere in the name of Gantz is. They are not alone in this room and will raise many questions: Did they die? They take part in one of these television games with the mode more commonly called " Tele reality " ? Or even with an experiment secret signal carried out by the army?
The protagonists will not cease wondering about this place and will have to make with " missions" all more dangerous ones than the others…

Scenario

Inspirations

None of these " inspirations" was not officially confirmed by the author, however it is interesting to note them, that they are or not involuntary:

As in the manga Bleach , when the hero drives out the hollows, it is invisible but remains tangible for the other human ones;

and as in Neon Genesis Evangelion, the main character is a high-school pupil a little associal, which does not have friendly truths at the beginning, and which is found obliged, question of life or death, to face monsters with the fantastic capacities emerging periodically from one does not know where, and which gradually, to the wire of its missions, friendship with its fellow-members binds;

the concept of the microphone-bombs established in the head, exploding when one leaves a " périmètre" defined, can also make think of the system explosive collars employed in the series Battle Royale.

To be able to take part in the Missions of Gantz, it is quite simply necessary… to die. Commit suicide, accident… But apparently Gantz chooses its Envoys, it does not take all deaths. For this reason it is necessary to be sure of being able to go in the Room of Gantz or to be invited there (the made-to-order of Izumi) to try. Moreover, it would seem that it is necessary to die during the evening preceding the night by a Mission. Indeed the Missions are exclusively night probably to be less visible for the population. Although " Gantzers" are invisible, the missions often cause heavy property damages on the environment.

Gantz, the Black Sphere

Baptized thus a long time ago, probably in connection with an old Japanese television game, the Black Sphere " Gantz" is made in a material similar to the Titane (but nothing is specified in the manga), and is approximately a meter in diameter. At the beginning of each Mission, it is it which téléporte (via an unknown technology) the Envoys in his part, and which informs them on the " Minis-Boss" mission. The description of extraterrestrial is completely useless, proof of a certain direction of the humor of Gantz. Then it opens and reveals a combination for each Envoy (the old ones must have the combination on them or with them when they are téléportés unless they arranged them after having finished a mission), as of the weapons and various objects like an optical camouflage. Strange thing, once the open ball one can see a man sitting inside who seems completely unconscious, it is perhaps the brain of all this strange story. Then, the Sphere retéléporte its Guests in Tokyo so that it will destroy the extraterrestrial ones. As of this moment, a countdown is activated. It should be noted that there exists also a part hidden in the Room, whose door is located behind the Sphere and opens only after the Sphere itself opened. Until today, we know that one finds there 2 Motor bikes (resembling giant pneumatic tyres) and of Katana with a blade variable length that only Kurono, the grandfather and Izumi used until now.

The equipment provided by Gantz is composed of a combination, a rifle and 2 kinds of guns.

The combination is surely the most important element of the panoply. To summarize, it makes of its carrier a Superman if any time this one knows how to use it. Used well, it makes it possible to jump of roof in roof, to fall from several hundred meters, to take blows without feeling any pain, etc… Obviously, it multiplies by ten the physical force. However, when it suffers very important damage, a liquid blue and viscous escapes from it, and at this time, it loses all its characteristics, which makes the human one which carried it a very vulnerable target. It would also seem that the sharp weapons nullify the properties of the combination (that is worth also for certain types of damage, like burns, which they, are not arrétées by the combination, proof that this one is not without fault)

The rifle and one of the guns (called " X-Gun" , due to the shape in X which it takes at the time to draw) have the same role: to explode all that is pointed towards them a few seconds after one pressed on the trigger (by a system of implosion it would seem). 3rd is the " Gun of Capture" (Y-Gun), which remotely immobilizes the enemy by a system of saucissonnage, then l'" Envoie" with the sky, in the form of a laser. Rifle is also equipped with glasses of sniper. All have sights with x-rays, and all have a second trigger which, at the same time in a hurry as the other, " verrouille" the target.

The Missions start as of the moment when the description of the " Minis-Boss" appears on Gantz. Then, when the Envoys of Gantz are retéléportés with the outside, they must eliminate this Mini-Boss, his possible companions and once this made, truth " Boss" appears. The " Boss" is extraterrestrial much more dangerous, intelligent and powerful that all the others.

The Envoys and the extraterrestrial ones (this known as, some can become visible) are invisible for human the " normaux" , but remain tangible (palpable). The Envoys should act only in one perimeter of one square kilometer, under penalty of seeing their heads exploding. They must also finish some with all the extraterrestrial ones before the end of the countdown which can last of 30min has 1:30, if not, they lose all their Points ( " Start again seriously since the début" ).

the System of Points

Each Mission is governed by a System of Points managed by Gantz. To destroy or send an extraterrestrial come down to gain a certain number of points. This number varies according to the missions and the " niveau" shot down adversary.
