Gangtok

Located at an altitude of 1500 m, Gangtok is the capital of the Sikkim, an Indian State being next to the Tibet, the Nepal and the Bhutan. It is currently a town of approximately 50.000 inhabitants, the greatest agglomeration of the Sikkim, an old kingdom attached to the India in 1975. The landscapes are extraordinary and of many sites neighborhood offer superb sights on all the Himalayenne chain, in particular on the Kanchenjunga, third plus high summit of the world.

With proximity are:

  • the Monastery of Rumtek, architecture Tibetan, and sits of the Karmapa in exile in India where lived 16th Karmapa Rangjung Rigpe Dorje.
  • the Monastery of Enchey
  • the Institute of Tibétologie which is famous in the whole world for the studies on Buddhist philosophy)
  • the chorten (stoupa) of C-Drul.
