Ganglia of the base

The ganglia of the base are a unit Sous-cortical of cores of gray Substance located roughly in the middle of the Human brain. They form with the cerebral Cortex and the Thalamus a striato-thalamo-cortical circuit which plays a fundamental role in the voluntary Motricité but also in many other functions Cognitive S like the Apprentissage, the memory or the emotion S.

The ganglia of the base consist of multiple structures:

  • the néo Striatum formed of the Core caudé and the Putamen
  • the formed pallidum of the Globus pallidus intern (GPI) and of the external Globus pallidus (GPe), one also indicates them under the terms median and side, respectively.
  • the Core under-thalamique (or body of Luys)
  • black substance: compact (SNpc, Substantia will nigra leave compacted ), réticulée (SNr, substantia will nigra leave reticulata ) and side (SNl, leave lateralis )
