Gan turn

The turn GAN is a Gratte-ciel of offices located in the district of business of Defense, in France (precisely with Courbevoie).

Situation

Built between 1972 and 1974, it is 179 m high (187 m if one takes into account the antennas carried by his roof). It is about the third higher tower of Defense, after the Total Tour and the Tour Areva. Its plan takes the form of a Greek Croix.

Polemic

During its construction in 1972, a protest campaign was installation asking for the reduction of its height, was considered to be too high and too conspicuous from Paris. It was not followed of effect and the tower GAN was built with the height envisaged.

History and future

The renovation project of tower GAN was partially revealed during an exposure to Paris at the end of 2007. Land company the “Of the Areas” which acquired this tower in July 2007 thus prepares a great restoration. This change will consist of a “unfolding of the tower”, the aspect of the frontage remaining the same one. Work pouraient to start in spring 2008 for a completion envisaged at the end of 2010. This new version of the tower would be made up of 50 stages of which a technical stage (230 meters) and at the top of the roof an antenna, wind mill (275 meters). To the 40 ème stage one could discover a panoramic restaurant together with a garden integrated in certain stages.
