Gamla
Gamla (or Gamala) is a city of the ancient Israel, on the plate of the Golan.
The town of Gamla draws its name from the Hebrew word gamal - camel , being located on a hill evoking the form of a croup of camel. The king Hasmonéen Alexandre Jannée extended the city to the first century before the Christian era and it continued to be populated by Juifs, as Flavius Josèphe to it ( judaïques Antiquités testifies 13: 394). Josèphe ordered the Galileo during the Jewish revolt against Rome and made of Gamla the principal fortress of the Golan. It makes the account of the Roman seat under the command of Vespasien which leads to its conquest in 66. Gamla was not rebuilt since.
