Gambela
The Gambela is one of nine ethnic divisions (Kililoch) of the Ethiopia. Located at the extreme is country, it has a surface of 25.802 km ². Its chief town is Gambela City.
The Exchange Statistical Agency off Ethiopia (Agency of the Statistics of Ethiopia) estimated its population at 247.000 hab. in 2005, including 19% the urban ones. Its population density is of 9,57 hab. /km ².
The ethnic independent groups present are the Nuer (40%), the Anuak (27%), the Amharas (8%), the Oromos (6%), the Mezhenger (5,8%) and well of others. The Amharique is the official language of the zone. 44% of the population are Protestant, 24,1%, orthodoxe Ethiopian.
The name Gambela comes from the traditional name of the Anuak.
The area produced 3.734 tons of Café during the season 2004-2005, according to Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority. This accounts for 1,64% of the Ethiopian production.
