Gambais
Gambais is a common French, located in the department of the Yvelines and the area Île-de-France.
Its inhabitants is called the Gambésiens .

Geography
The commune of Gambais is located at the north-western edge of the Forêt of Rambouillet.It is, by the road, with approximately 37 kilometers in the west of Versailles and 28 kilometers in the south of Mantes-the-Pretty, the chief town of district. Houdan, chief town of canton, is with 7 kilometers with the North-West and Rambouillet with 21 kilometers in south-east.
The communes bordering are Millemont in the North-East, Grosrouvre in the east, Gambaiseuil in south-east, Bourdonné in the south, Maulette in the west and Bazainville in north.
In addition to the borough, several hamlets enamel the communal territory: Boulay , Mocsouris , Perdreauville , Saint-Aignan where the church is and Saint-Like .
The commune is sprinkled by the Vesgre, river which takes its source with Saint-Leger-in-Yvelines, in the forest of Rambouillet, and is thrown in the the Eure with Ivry-the-Battles.
In the circulation plan, a major axis and several departmental axes serve the commune. The Trunk road 12 borders the north of the commune, driving towards the east with the highway A12 and towards the west with Houdan and Dreux. The secondary road 983 crosses the commune: since the center of the borough, it carries out, towards the North-West, with Maulette and beyond, towards north, with Mantes-the-Pretty and, towards the south, with Bourdonné and beyond, towards south-east, with Nogent-the-King in Eure-et-Loir. The secondary road 179 starts in the borough with the right of the RD983 and joined the RN12, towards the North-East, with the name of which occurred of Neuville , a long straight line opposite the entry of the castle. Lastly, the secondary road 112 crosses the commune, driving, towards north, with Bazainville and Richebourg, merging with the RD179 in the center of the village and driving, towards south-east, with Gambaiseuil and Montfort-l' Amaury.
In the railway plan, the station the SNCF nearest is the Gare of Houdan to less than seven kilometers in the North-East.
History
The area was inhabited by the Carnutes, Gallic Peuple.The communal territory was the property of the marquis de Labriffe after the French revolution.
In 1915, Henri Désiré Landru rented there a villa (the Tric Villa) relatively isolated, where he assassinated eleven people (nine woman alones and a mother and its little boy) before his arrest which has occurred the April 12th 1919.
Culture
- Saint-Aignan Church: building of Xe century, with bell-tower in square tower raised in 1621, with cover out of slate, registered voter with the inventory of the historic buildings in 1946.
- Castle of Neuville: it is about a castle of style Henri III brick and stones, built in XVIe century by Joachim de Bellengreville, and increased in 1750 per Agnès de Révol. He was sold as Bien national under the French revolution then repurchased in 1795 by the family of Labriffe which in is always owner. Restored in 1966, it was classified historic building in 1972. In the field consisted a wooded park of 110 hectares, a farm in quadrilateral dates from the XVIIe siècle.
The painter Robert Delaunay and his wife Sonia are buried in the cemetery of Gambais.
Pierre de Labriffe (owner of the castle) is the grandfather of Hortense de Labriffe, born in 1968, married since 1997 with Arnaud Montebourg
Organization of the Village
The village comprises a baker's and confectioner's shop, small a Commerce (Small Market), a coffee (Coffee of Chasteau), a florist, two estate agencies, a Restaurant, an elementary school, a postal and telecommunications authorities, an antique dealer, a community center, a park public.
