Gamba

The Gambe is a play of Orgue, with mouth, of the family of the basic Jeux. French female name of Latin origin, it acts of a ellipse referring to the Viola da gamba.

Description

The Gamba is a play whose pipe with mouth, open, is of narrow size, its sonority more or less pointing out that of a string instrument rubbed as the viola da gamba or the violoncello. The stamp of the Gamba is low in fundamental and rich in high harmonics. It is typical romantic organ and the symphonic organ.

In the French organ, the Gamba is used traditionally as support with the celestial Voix, which consists of two rows of gambas whose agreement is shifted of a higher coma, which generates a soft undulation.

In the symphonic organ such as conceived Aristide Cavaillé-coll, one often finds two Gambas:

  • One placed at the Large Organ comes to constitute the romantic bottom of organ: Principal, Bumblebee, harmonic Flute and Gamba .
  • the other generally placed at the expressive Account is harmonized in a softer way and is used especially basic for the celestial Voix.
