Gamaret

The Gamaret is a Cépage Suisse Cépage obtained in 1970 in Pully (Field of Caudoz) by Mr. André Jaquinet, who is also the selector. Gamaret, just like the Garanoir, is resulting from a crossing of Gamay X Reichensteiner. Gamaret first of all carried the number of collection “B 13” before being called “Gamaret”. Gamaret was selected, with the Garanoir, among the many descendants of a crossing of Gamay X Reichensteiner. Ripe at the same time as the black Pinot, Gamaret has a potential of production close to that of fertile clones of black Pinot. Its exceptional resistance to the gray rot of the grape, makes it particularly useful in the vineyards frequently touched by this parasite. It can be preserved on stock until complete maturity. Gamaret provides coloured and structured red wines, suited to a certain ageing. They present sometimes spiced notes. The characteristics of Gamaret make it particularly interesting in assembly with black Pinot and Gamay; it joins Garanoir also well.
