Gallia (network)
Gallia is a network of Résistance created in 1943 by the central Bureau of information and action (BCRA) and the plain Mouvements of Resistance (WALL).
History
The direction of Gallia is entrusted to Henri Gorce. Claudius-Small Eugene and Albert Cohan are, at the origin, the two other leaders principal. If, officially, this network results from the intelligence services of the WALL, in practice, the movements prefer to keep their autonomy compared to free France, and to let their members engage in so good Gallia seems to them.Gallia deals mainly with military informations and police officers. Its importance increases throughout the second half-year 1943, and, in spring 1944, it becomes the most important network of the BCRA in southern zone, cash 2.500 agents. Its activity does not cease after the unloadings in Normandy and Provence: it informs the Allies about the objectives to be bombarded during the retirement of the German armies.
