Gallery Sabauda (Turin)
The Gallery Sabauda , Galleria Sabauda , of Turin, is lodged in the buildings of the palate of the Academy of Science ( Palazzo dell' Accademia delle Scienze ). It is one of the principal and prestigious art galleries country.
History
It is instituted by the king Charles-Albert of Sardinia, on October 12th, 1833 (day of its birthday) and is named royal Galerie ( Reale Galleria ) in the rooms of the Palais Madam of Turin. Its first director is Roberto d' Azeglio named into 1836 which joins together 365 works there coming from the Royal palace of Turin, the Palais Carignano of Turin and from the palate of the Doges of Genoa.In 1865, Massimo d' Azeglio which succeeds his/her Roberto brother, carries out the transfer of the collections on the second floor of the Palazzo dell' Accademia delle Scienze (which was built into 1679 of a project of Guarino Guarini like Collegio dei Nobili ).
In 1860, the king Victor-Emmanuel II of Savoy carries out the donation with the Italian nation of it, under the direct responsibility of the ministry for the State education.
In 1933, at the time of its hundredth birthday, it acquires its current denomination: Galleria Sabauda .
