Galitch

Galitch (in) is a Russian city of: 18500 inhabitants (2005), located in the Oblast de Kostroma. It is also a station of railroad of average importance stage on the way of the Transsibérien.

The original name of the city was, in 1234, Grad Merski (the town of Merya). It developed to become, today, one of the largest salt mines of all the Europe, exceeding in terms of production the mine of Halych.

During the 13th century, the city was directed by an younger brother of Alexandre Nevski, which reigned until in 1363, when the Moscovites seized the capacity and forced the Nevski family with the exile with Novgorod (ВеликийНовгород) in the Oblast de Novgorod.

Are regarded as one period ostentation for Galitch: the city then controlled most of the Russian trade of salt and the furs.

The ramparts built with the Middle Ages were again strengthened during and since are called Colonnes of Chemiaka .
