Galina Pavlovna Vichnevskaïa (in), born the October 25th 1926 with Leningrad, is a Russian Soprano .
It makes its beginnings in 1944, singing Opérette. After one year of studies near Vera Nikolaïeva, it gained a contest organized by the Théâtre Bolchoï (with a Lied of Sergueï Rachmaninov and an air drawn from Aïda ) in 1952. It enters then in Bolchoï in 1953.
In 1961, Galina Vichnevskaïa makes its beginnings with the Metropolitan Opera New York in Aida ; the following year, it begins with the Royal Opera House in the same role. Lastly, for its beginnings with La Scala in 1964, she interprets the role of Liù in Turandot , with dimensions of Birgit Nilsson and Franco Corelli.
May 30th, 1962, it is distribution of the creation of the War Requiem of Benjamin Britten, with dimensions of the German baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, and of the English tenor Peter Pears.
Vishnevskaïa was the wife of the Violoncelliste Mstislav Rostropovitch of 1955 until the death of this one in 2007; they regularly occurred together, him with the piano. They were friendly close relations of Dmitri Chostakovitch; after the death of the type-setter and their forced departure, they made Lady Macbeth de Mtsensk a historical recording for EMI.
In 1974, they leave the Soviet Union and are established in the United States.
In 2002, Galina Vichnevskaïa opened its own theater of opera in Moscow: the Galina Vishnevskaya Operated Center.
In 2006, it makes its beginnings with the international cinema in the main role of the film Alexandra of Alexandre Sokourov, presented to the Cannes festival in May 2007. She had already played in Russian film of 1966, Katerina Izmailova, according to the opera of Dmitri Chostakovitch.
