Galaure

The Galaure is small a French Rivière , affluent of the the Rhone out of left bank. Galaure runs in area the Rhone-Alps, in the departments of the Isere and the Drome.

Etymology

Its name comes from old a will *Galauara , based on the pre-Celtic hydronymic root Gall supplemented double rental suffix - with-rear . Similar formations are found in the names of Galèbre (Beaujeu) or of Galabre (It Caster hammer-on-Galabre).

Geography

The river is born in the Département from Isere in the forest from Chambaran, commune of Roybon, very close to the sources of the Herbasse. It runs in a general way towards the west, bathes Hauterives with its astonishing ideal Palais of the Factor Horse. It joins the the Rhone with Saint-Vallier.

Hydrology

The interannual medium flow or module of Galaure was calculated during 24 years with Saint-Uze, small town close to the confluence. It is assembled to 2,18 m ³ a second for a surface of basin of 232 km ².

The river present of the seasonal fluctuations of flow related to its rain mode, with prolonged high waters energy of the autumn in spring and carrying the average monthly flow on the level from 2,5 to 2,87 m ³ from October to May included (with an in April maximum and a small hollow in February), followed by a progressive but fast fall until the low water level of August, with 0,727 m ³ a second average.

The VCN3 can fall until 0,225 m ³, in the event of dry decennial period. The VCN3 is the past minimal quantity or minimal flow over three days consecutive.

As for the risings, they can be important, in spite of the smallness of the basin of the river. Indeed, the QIX 2 or calculated flow of rising biennial and the QIX 5 or flow calculated for a quinquennial rising is worth respectively 48 and 82 m ³ a second. The QIX 10 or calculated flow of decennial rising is of 99 m ³ a second, the QIX 20 of 120 m ³ and the QIX 50 of 150 m ³ a second (see note).

The recorded maximum instantaneous flow with Saint-Uze is of 219 m ³ a second on October 6th, 1993, while the maximum daily output was of 70,6 m ³ a second on December 2nd, 2003. If one compares the first of these figures on a QIX scale of Galaure, it appears that this rising was much more important than the rising cinquantennale calculated by the QIX 50, and thus completely exceptional.

The Lame of water past in the catchment area of the river is of 298 millimetres annually, which is average, slightly lower than the French average, all confused basins. The specific Débit (or Qsp) is assembled thus at 9,4 liters a second and per square kilometer of basin.
