Galéas Ier Visconti

Galéas Ier Visconti , in Italian Galeazzo I Visconti , born the January 21st 1277 and dead the August 6th 1328 with Pescia (Tuscan), is a noble Italy N which was lord of Milan of 1322 with 1327.

Biography

Galéas was the son of Mathieu I {{er}} (1250-1322) and of Bonacosa Borri (NC-1321). It was born, extremely opportunely, the very same day of the victory of Desio gained by its back great-uncle Otton Visconti over the troops of the faction guelfe of Della Torre.
In 1298, it is named Podestat Novare and only until in 1299 will remain it.

He marries, the June 24th 1300, Béatrice d' Este (1268-1334), girl of Obizzo II of Este, lord of Ferrare and Modena and widow of Nino Visconti of Pisa.

This same year, his/her father decides to associate it with his government of Milan but the family Della Torre and the party guelfe drive out Visconti. While Mathieu leaves to Motteggiana near the Scaligeri , Galéas will remain with Ferrare near the family of Este where it will remain until 1311 and where will be born its enfants.
In 1311, his/her father having recovered his Milanese seigniory thanks to the emperor Henri VII, Galéas is named lord of Plaisance.

The years which follow are remembered by the confrontations with the troops guelfes of the Torriani . Passerino della Torre east demolishes, in March 1312, with Soncino. In 1313, new defeats of the troops torriani with Gaggiano and Rho, close to Pavia and, in 1315, of the Angevins to Voghera and Montecatini Term. Starting from 1317, the war of excommunicated the starts, opponent Mathieu I {{er}} and its family with the Pape which them excommunicates and shows them Hérésie.

In 1321, Galéas besieges Crema and Crémone in September then, in November, demolishes the troops gibelines Plaisance and of Lodi to Borgo Val di Taro.

Mathieu, old of 70 years and mow, calls Galéas to replace it with the government of Milan in June 1322 and to withdraw himself. Galéas leaves the government of Pleasure to his Béatrice wife and her son Azzon. Mathieu dies one month afterwards, the June 24th 1322, in his retirement of Crescenzago, close to Milan, and Galéas is named captain of the people for a année.
In November, it is constrained to leave Milan because of a rising organized by his cousin Lodrisio Visconti. Galéas takes refuge with Lodi, while the government of the city is entrusted to the Burgundian captain Jean de Chatillon.
Fearing a return of the Torriani , same Lodrisio decides to recall to Milan Galéas in December. The city is prone to plunderings and with the disorder during three days, but, the December 29th 1322, Galéas succeeds in being made proclaim lord of Milan by the popular assembly.

The family competitions emerge: his/her Marco brother showed it, in 1327, near the emperor Louis IV of Bavaria, of Trahison to the profit of the pope.

The July 5th 1327, the emperor relieves Galéas and the fact of imprisoning in the prison of the Furnaces ( I Forni ) of Monza with his/her two other brothers Jean and Lucien, under the charge of the assassination of the Étienne.
brother Galéas is released the March 25th 1328 and leaves to Lucques near Castruccio Castracani.

He dies in Pescia the August 6th 1328. Its Béatrice widow will survive to him until the September 15th 1334.

Its succession will be ensured by his/her son Azzon who will be named imperial vicar the January 15th 1329.

Descent

From its marriage with Beatrice d' Este, were born two children:
  • Azzon (1302-1339) which will become lord of Milan in 1329,
  • Ricciarda (1304-1361) which married, in 1329, the marquis Tomasso II of Saluces (Ca 1304-1357).

Galéas also had an illegitimate girl, Caterina, which married the Génois Alaone Spinola.
