Galéas II Visconti
Galéas II Visconti , in Italian Galeazzo II Visconti , born towards the 1320 and dead August 4th 1378, was a noble Italy N which was Co-lord of Milan of 1349 with 1378 with his/her brothers Mathieu II and Barnabé.
Biography
He was the second wire of Etienne Visconti (NC-1337) and the gênoise Valentine Doria (1290-1359). Etienne was itself the fifth wire of the lord Mathieu Ier and his three children Mathieu, Galéas and Barnabé was being, after the successive deaths of their uncle Galéas Ier, of their cousin Azzon, then of their two other uncles Lucien and Jean, which had all four reigned on Milan, the last male legitimate descendants of the famille.In July 1340, it takes part with his/her brothers in the conspiracy carried out by Francesco Pusterla and some other noble against his/her uncles Jean and Lucien which has just succeeded their cousin Azzon. This conspiracy having been denounced, Lucien prevails against entreated but does not punish its nephews.
In 1346, after a new plot, it is constrained with the exile at the same time as his/her brothers. Galéas travels with the count de Hennegau in Palestine and in the Flandres. In March 1349, after the death of Lucien, it is recalled with his/her brothers in Milan by the remaining uncle, the archbishop Jean, who succeeded his brother Lucien, to take part in the government of which he became only lord and imperial vicar and who recognizes them like his successors.
He marries, the September 28th 1350, with Rivoli, Blanche of Savoy (1336-1387), girl of Aymon '' the Pacific '', count de Savoie, of Maurienne and Aoste, and Yolande of Montferrat.
The October 5th 1354, Jean dies and the three nephews Mathieu II, Galéas II and Barnabé become Co-lords of Milan by sharing the trustworthy seigniories:
- Mathieu II is lord of Plaisance, Lodi, Parma, Bologna, Pontremoli, Monza and San Donnino.
- Galéas II obtains Pavia, Like, Novare, Verceil, Asti, Alba, Tortona, Alexandria and Vigevano.
- Barnabe reign on Bergamo, Brescia, Casement bolt, Soncino, Lonato and Valley Camonica.
When the September 26th 1355, Mathieu II dies, the two remaining brothers divide themselves the stronghold and Galéas II obtain the Western part of the Lombardy while Barnabé receives the oriental party.
In 1360, whereas Barnabé manages its démélés with the city of Bologna, Galéas II conquers Pavia of which it will make his preferred stay.
The same year, in June 1360, it binds with the French royal family by organizing the marriage of his/her son Jean Galéas with Isabelle de Valois, twelve years old, girl of the king de France Jean II '' the Good ''.
Galéas II was for a long time sick of Polyarthrite rhumatoïde, but, in 1362, its health condition worsened which led it to move all its court with the castle of Pavia which became its Capitale. Among its advisers and ambassadors it counted Pétrarque.
He dies the August 4th 1378, leaving, in theory, his share of the family stronghold to his son Jean Galéas. In fact, Barnabé will completely monopolize the capacity of Lombardy and it will be necessary to wait nearly seven years so that the coup d'etat of Jean Galéas, in May 1385, succeeds in reversing it. The wife of Galéas II, Blanche, which was recipient in the conspiracy, will die the December 31st 1387.
Descent
Before its marriage, Galéas II had had, of Malgarola da Lucino, two natural children:- Cesare (av.1350-NC) which married the placentine Franceschina de Todischis
- Beatrice (av.1350-1410) which married Giovanni Anguissola.
From its union with Blanche of Savoy were born three children:
- Jean Galéas (1351-1402) which will become lord of Milan after having reversed his/her uncle Barnabé
- Marie (1352-1362), died young person
- Yolande (1354-1386) which will marry:
- # in 1368, Lionel of England (1338-1368), duke of Clarence, count d' Ulster
- # in 1377, Otton '' it Secondotto '' (1360-1378), marquis de Montferrat
- # in 1381, his/her cousin Ludovico Visconti (NC-1404), wire of Barnabe and lord of Parma.
