Gajdobra
Gajdobra , in Serb Cyrillic Sr Гајдобра, in Hungarian hu Szépliget and German of Schönau, is a locality of Serbia located in the autonomous province of Voïvodine. It belongs to the municipality of Bačka Palanka in the district of Bačka Southerner. In 2002, it counted: 2968 inhabitants, of which: 2808 Serb (94,6%).
Gajdobra is officially classified among the villages of Serbia.
History
According to the archeologists, the area of Gajdobra is inhabited since the Neolithic . the Middle Ages, Gajdobra played a big role because of the road which connected it to Bač. In 1464, a locality called Dobra is mentioned with the site of the current village; this name of Slavic origin means “the good one (city)”. The same village is still mentioned in 1554, at the same time as a locality of the name of Gajdobra like two other villages: Gornja Dobra and Donja Dobra. All these villages were populated by Serbes.
In 1763, populations of German origin settled in Gajdobra.
