Gaius Octavius (death in 59 av. J. - C.) was a Roman politician , father of Octave, the future emperor Auguste. He goes down from an old woman and rich family from the equestrian order, for which he was the first representative with the Roman Sénat.

His/her grandfather combatit as an officer at the time of the Second Punic War. His/her father was Magistrat and lived until a advanced age. Like his father, it paid the voters with the elections. After its Préture, he became governor of Macedonia.

On the way of Macedonia, it was charged by the senate with subduing a rebellion of slaves, who had previously taken part in the rebellions under Spartacus and Catilina. It seemed a qualified administrator, controlling " courageously and with justesse" , that includes the victory at the time of a battle against tribes Thraces. Gaius Octavius had three children. With his first wife, Ancharia , was born a girl from the name of Octavia Thurina Major. With his second wife, Atia Balba Caesonia (the niece of Jules César), it had two children, a girl of the name of Octavia Thurina Minor and of course Octave, which thereafter was adopted by César, and which became Empereur under the name of Auguste.
