Gaius Aurelius Cotta (v. 124 av. J. - C. - 73 av. J. - C.), Roman speaker , brother of Marcus Aurelius Cotta and uncle of Jules César (by the mother of César, Aurelia Cotta
In -92, it defended his/her uncle Publius Rutilius Rufus who was wrongfully marked of extortion in Asia. It was in very good terms with the Tribun of the plebs Marcus Livius Drusus, which was assassinated in -91, and does not succeed in its candidature of powerful orator. A little after it was prosecuted and, to avoid being condemned, it was exiled.
It did not return to Rome during the dictatorship of Lucius Cornelius Sulla (Sylla) in -82. It was Consul in -75 and began the hostilities to the Optimates as a voter a law on the political withdrawal of Sylla and by disqualifying the powerful orators to hold the high magistrature.
In agreement with Cicéron, Publius Sulpicius Rufus and him were named better young people speakers of their time. Cicéron the met in scene in the De Oratore , and makes him honor of the observations on the art of public speaking which this work contains, and in Of deorum will natura.
