Diocles is one of the most famous Aurige S of Antiquity. In 24 years of career, this “hispanus lusitanus” (*) takes part in 4  257 races for 1  462 victories. Gaius Appuleius Diocles (104 - 146) begins at 18 years at the White. At 24 years it engages at the Greens for three years before concluding its career by fifteen years to be run for the Reds. The financial profits of Dioclès in premiums of races, victories or transfers are considerable: 35  863  120 sesterces! It is more than the fabulous heritage of Néron (30 million sesterces).

The Roman statistics on the races of tanks were so precise that it is known, for example, that Diocles gained 502 victories in the last turn while the whole of its financial profits are compiled except for the sesterce.

(*) probably of Berber origin because its two first names were it: Gaia was the name of a Berber king and Appuleus that of the very great writer " latin" Berber well-known. Another reason to suppose it is that the majority of the stockbreeders the chavaux one at that time were of origin numides (Berber) because the riders numides extinct of riding specimens.
