Eric Gagné (born the January 7th 1976 with Mascouche, Quebec, Canada) is a launcher droitier evolving/moving since 1999 in the major Ligues of Baseball. It evolved/moved until 2006 for the Dodgers of Los Angeles of the National league, with which it gained in 2003 the prestigious Trophée Cy Young, given annually to the launchers par excellence of the two leagues, a rare exploit for a launcher of changing.
Since July 31st, 2007, it belongs to the Red Sox of Boston. The October 28th 2007, it became the first Québécois to belong to a champion team of the world Série, when Red Sox override the Colorado.
Biography
Beginnings
Born from a Québécois family, Gagné plays hockey and baseball in its birthplace of Mascouche, not far from Montreal. It belonged to the Canadian team world Championship junior.In 1994, Gagné is selected with the round 30e by the White Sox of Chicago. However, it signs a contract with the Dodgers of Los Angeles the following year, then it studies English in Seminole State College (Oklahoma) and plays with the team of baseball of the “Trojans”.
After several parts in the minor leagues - during the season 1997 - he considers to take his retirement whereas he underwent a surgery with an elbow - Gained joint Dodgers during the season 1999. In 2002, it turns over to the minor leagues (in Las Vegas).
Season 2003
In 2003, it returns to Dodgers, this time like " stoppeur". It makes a success of 84 consecutive rescues (a record of the major leagues) between the August 26th 2002 and the July 5th 2004. Because of its performances, the partisans of Dodgers allot the nickname of “Over Range to him”.During its astonishing season 2003, “Over Range” gains “Rolaids Relief Man Award” and the Trophée Cy Young. It becomes the first Canadian launcher to gain this price since Ferguson Jenkins in 1971 and the first raising device since 1992. Curiously, it is also the first launcher of the history to gain Cy Young in spite of a file victory-defeats negative, its card being of 2-3. It was selected because of its average of points deserved microscopic (1,20), its 137 withdrawals on catches in only 82 1/3 handles, and especially its 55 rescues, equalizing the record of the National league whom it now holds with John Smoltz.
Records and exploits
The July 15th 2004, in a victory 5 to 2 of Dodgers vis-a-vis the Diamondbacks of Arizona to Phoenix, Gagné makes a success of its 130e rescue for Los Angeles. It exceeds for this reason Jeff Shaw as leader in the history of the team.Eric Gagné is recognized to be a particularly effective launcher of changing. During its passage at Dodgers, it protected 161 victories in 167 attempts, for a percentage of success of 96%. It is not rare that a raising device, even the best, shows six sabotages in only one season, which still returns the statistics of the Québécois launcher more impressive. As comparison with the raising devices stars of major, Trevor Hoffman made a success of its rescues in 89% of the cases, of the beginning of its career until 2006, and Mariano Rivera in 88% of the occasions.
Wounds
Eric Gagné very little played in 2005 and 2006, while raisant of a wound to the ligaments of the right shoulder. In 2005, it did not take part that in 14 meetings at Dodgers, protecting 8 victories in as many attempts. It undergoes an operation of the type Tommy John the June 21st 2005.The following season, it had to be operated again in spite of a camp of encouraging drive. For Gained, Red Sox yielded to Rangers the launcher Kason Gabbard and two acrobats of the minor leagues, David Murphy and Engel Beltre.
At Red Sox of Boston
At Red Sox, Eric Gagné had to give up the number number 38, already carried to Boston by the veteran Curt Schilling, and rather chose the 83.Gained makes lance for the first time at Red Sox the August 2nd 2007. Its beginnings in Boston are difficult: 14 deserved points granted to the adversary of 14 handles, and this in 15 parts. Its card is of 1-2, with any rescue, 3 sabotages, and a very high average of deserved points of 9,00. The adversary strikes for .350 against him lasting this period.

Others
- the June 6th 2006, Gained Eric and the receiver Russell Martin entirely formed the first duet launcher-receiver Canadian-French of the history of baseball. Martin was born in Ontario, but is a French-speaking person having grown with the Quebec. The first duet Canadian launcher-receiver was composed of the Québécois launcher Denis Boucher and of the Ontarian receiver Joe Siddall, with the Expos of Montreal in 1993.
