Gaia MATER

Gaia MATER is a humanistic global area network of ecology whose main object is the solidarity, the resource sharing and the protection of environmental balance .

The activities of Gaia MATER have as a primary goal the general interest and the public utility, by developing voluntariate and the Bénévolat, and by developing the social link everywhere. This ONG is an active relai of application of the objectives of the Charter of Belgrade of UNO (1975) and Charter of the Earth of UNESCO (2000) on the education and the protection of environmental balance.

History

International

Gaia MATER was allowed in 2006 with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations under permanent advisory statute (special list) on a proposal from the Committee of ONG of UNO.

France

The French representation made up in 1979, then was reconstituted in 1998, by already active associations and militants since a score of years in the medium of ecology, solidarity, and the social economy.
Cette representation, which profits in France from a governmental approval from national association from environmental protection, was at the origin of the swarming of the majority of the other representations, of which it formed many members, in particular in the West African permanent representations. ONG commune was born in 1998 at the time of the reorganization from the French structure.

Operation

The operation of this ONG is particular. A simple light common central structure makes it possible to the members to better benefit from the collective resources, and preserves these resources in the general interest. One finds there the spirit of operation freely coordinated and independent of the SALT. It provides a function of connection, of coordination of means, representation, information, and impulse. It has primarily an arbitration and relational role, without provision of the common resources, directly allotted to the representations for their members carrying project. Such an organization with a team of seat very reduced and few administration expenses, allows that almost all the means are affected on the ground.

The community of its first members constituted the international organization (ONG) Gaia MATER, who is the center of a network functioning by levelling co-operation of the adherent national representations, which carry out activities of public interest together, such as:

NORTH-SOUTH co-operation: fight against the turning into a desert, afforestation,
supply of equipment and resources to the disadvantaged communities,
ecological recycling of waste, reconstitution of grounds, vigilance antipollution,
development of solar and wind installations, production of drinking water,
actions against misery and exclusion, with training and job creation in social economy and interdependent,
operations of town planning and architecture improving the social link
division of knowledge, formation, research tasks, publications, etc

Budget and members

The stepping of the figures declared with UNO (Committee of ONG) and with the French ministry of Ecology for 2005 fact of appearing for Gaia MATER an international annual budget of operation of 841 350 USD, of which 813 353 $ assigned to the operations of ground, the French central structure spending only 5 500 €, and main part of the resources coming from gifts and European subsidies.

For the whole of the national representations being attached to the common central network, France, Belgium, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Mali, the number of permanent members was of 4 993 at the end of 2004, normally in total voluntary help. Cameroun required its fastening in 2005. Other formations, in particular in Poland and Bolivia, are independent of the common network.
