Gaglioppo
The gaglioppo is a Italian Cépage of black grapes.
Origin and geographical distribution
It probably comes from the Greece. The Magliocco canino would be a degenerated form of the gaglioppo. It is classified auxiliary type of vine in DOC. Bivongi, Ciró, Donnici, Melissa, Pollino, Sant' Anna di Isola Capo Rizzuto, San Vito di Luzzi, Savuto, Scavigna and Verbicaro. It is classified recommended or authorized in many provinces of the areas Calabria, Sicily and Sardinia. In 1998, it covered 7 017 ha.

Farming aptitudes
Maturity is of third time: 30 days after the chasselas.
Technological potential
The bunches are average with large and the bays are of intermediate size. The bunch is conical or pyramidal, winged and compact. The type of vine is of good strength preferring a short size. The gaglioppo resists the dryness well and with freezing but it is sensitive to the Mildiou and the Oïdium.The wines are very alcoholic. It is generally vinified with white and black type of vines.
