Gaetano Martino

Gaetano Martino (born the November 25th 1900 with Messine, Sicily - died the July 21st 1967) was a doctor and Politician Italy N, which was Foreign Minister, university professor and vice-chancellor of the Université of Messine.

Biography

Gaetano Martino is at the origin (with the countries of the Benelux) of the Conférence of Messine which was going to lead to the Common Market, where he made the following address with the opening of work: “ Siamo tutti ansiosi di estendere sempre più will nostra it integrazione… Semi auguro che in questa Conferenza aggiungeremo one' will altra will pietra ale fondamenta beyond costruzione europea ” (We are all anxious to extend our integration always more. I wish that during this conference we will add a new stone to the bases of European construction). It directs the Italian delegation during the signature of the the Treaty of Rome in 1957.

Member of the Italian Liberal party (FOLD). Named Minister for Education the February 10th 1952 in the government of Mario Scelba, the September 15th 1954 it replaces outgoing Attilio Piccioni at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (load which it preserves until the May 15th 1957 in the 1st government of Antonio Segni). The November 21st 1956, it makes a speech with the General meeting of the United Nations, one year after the entry of Italy in this organization.

President of the the European Parliament of 1962 with 1964.

His/her son Antonio Martino (born with Metz-native the December 22nd 1942) is professor of political economy at the university and deputy of Forza Italia since 1994. He was Foreign Minister in the 1st government of Silvio Berlusconi (1994 - 1995) and Minister for Defense in the 2nd government Berlusconi (2001 - 2006).
