Gaetano Cicognani

Mgr Gaetano Cicognani is a Prélat Italy N of the Roman Catholic church (November 26th 1881 - February 5th 1962) which was the prefect of the Congregation of the rites and the sacraments. After its ordination in 1904, it made its studies with the pontifical ecclesiastical Academy and was named with the secretariat of state of the the Vatican in 1915. Five years later, he became the personal attache of the apostolic nuncio in Belgium. In 1925, it will be devoted bishop of Ankara then appointed apostolic nuncio in Bolivia; from there, it will go to Peru with the same religious significant titles, then to Austria in 1936 and finally to Spain in 1938 when it remained until its nomination within the Roman Curia like cardinal by the pope Pie XII in 1953. (His/her brother, Mgr Amleto Cicognani will be created cardinal in 1958). During its mandate of prefect of the Congregation of the rites and sacraments, it operated to set up the first changes of these ritual requested by the conclusions of the Concile of the Vatican II.
