Gaetano Baccani

Gaetano Baccani (Florence, 1792 - Florence, June 18th, 1867) is an Italian architect of the school florentine, one of the most important architects Tuscan of the 19th century.

Biography

Of origin florentine, it is formed with the Académie of Beautiful arts with Gaspare Paoletti, and becomes professor in 1818, and then Maestro of 1849 until the end of its life.

To this load is added, of 1824 to 1860, that prestigious of Architetto will dellOpera del Duomo (the same one as that of Arnolfo di Cambio, of Giotto, Francesco Talenti, Bernardo Buontalenti…)

In all its work it promotes the neo-classic, typical style of the Restoration, by constructing some buildings of great prestige. It will also use of the neo-gothic style for certain monuments.

Palazzo dei Canonici , place of the Dome (1825-1830),
Monument and apparatuses funerary for the large-duchess Marie Anne Carolina de Sassonia with San Lorenzo (1832-1833),
Frontage and the hall of the Theater of the Pergola (1855),
the restorations neorimascimetali of San Lorenzo (1858-1860)
Many private palates, among which:

the Salviati Casino in Borgo Pinti (1834),
Palazzo Capponi in Via Giusti (1825)…

Close to his, with Frosini, Chiusdino, for the family Feroni, the church of the Madonna of Buonconsiglio , including its rich person interior decorations.

In neo-gothic style:

the Torrino of the Jardin Torrigiani (1820)
the internal reorganization as of the cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore
the construction of the bell-tower of the Basilica of Santa Croce (projected in 1842 and realized of 1847 to 1865)
the enlargings of the Cimitero delle Porte Health close to San Miniato Al Assembles (1859-1864), started with Niccolò Matas.

Homages

a plate on its house, places Santa Maria Novella, commemorates her stay there.
