Gabriel Monnet

Gabriel Monnet , born on February 23rd 1923 with Montmédy (Meuse), is an actor and director French.

Gabriel Monnet passes its childhood to the Cheylard in Ardèche, and is initiated with the theater by his/her father actor. It integrates the Teacher training school of Privas and enters in resistance the Maquis of Vercors and the Ardèche. Already, it assembles spectacles, and writes the song of the pioneers of Vercors .

It starts its career with the Release while integrating in 1946 the Departmental management of the Youth and the Sports of Haute-Savoie as a national instructor of dramatic art. It animates in Annecy the network Peuple and culture. For its first setting in scene, it assembles Noces of blood of Lorca in 1951, then Sainte Jeanne of Shaw for the Festival of Sarlat in 1952. In 1954, it creates the festival of the Theatrical Nights of Annecy. It meets Michel Vinaver there, young playwright who writes for him the Koreans . Vis-a-vis the refusal of the authorities to assemble this part, Gabriel Monnet leaves departmental management. It joined then as actor and director, the troop of Jean Dasté with the Comedy of Saint-Etienne, between 1957 and 1961.

The position of director of the Comedy of Bourges is proposed to him, and it leaves Dasté. The Comedy, national dramatic Center in 1963, opens on April 5th, 1961, and settles three years later in the House of the Culture, which it conceived with Jean Rouvet and of which he becomes director.

It assembles parts of Shakespeare ( Timon of Athens , Macbeth , the Storm ), Tchekov ( the Gull ), Brecht ( Dialogs of Exiled ), Molière ( the school of the women , the criticism of the school of the women , Don Juan ) and creators contemporary like Pierre Halet ( the provocation , with decorations and costumes of Calder and a music of Jean Ferrat), Alan Seymour ( the single day of the year ).

In 1969, it must leave the comedy of Bourges with the major part of its troop, and founds the Theater of Nice, which becomes national dramatic center, that it opens with the theater amateur. In conflict with Jacques Doctor, it leaves Nice in 1975 to direct the Dramatic Center of the Alps to Grenoble. It meets there Georges Lavaudant Theater in favor, which it associates with the direction of the dramatic center. It leaves this place at the end of 1981.

Since 1982, it continues to play and put in scene, and teaches its Article It takes part in two films of Jean-Jacques Beineix, the Moon in the gutter and Roselyne and the lions .
