Gabriel Celaya

Gabriel Celaya of its true name: Rafael Gabriel Juan Múgica Celaya Leceta Cendoya is a Spanish Poète , born in Hernani on March 18th 1911, died with Madrid on April 18th 1991.

Its life

After studies started in 1918 with the college Los Marianitas with San Sebastian it resides temporarily at Pau in France in 1922 for health issues.

In 1927 it finishes its secondary studies with San Sebastian, goes on a second journey in France.

In 1928 it undertakes studies of engineer at the University of Madrid, it become acquainted there with Dali, Lorca, Buñuel. and of many other intellectuals who attend the residence hall .

It starts to write poems in 1932, then share with the military service in 1933.

In 1934, it becomes acquainted with Pablo Neruda, great figure of Chilean poetry.

In 1935, its finished studies of engineer, it goes on a journey in England, then returns in San Sebastian, to work in the family company, it publishes its first poems, under the name of Gabriel Múgica.

In 1936, when bursts the Guerre of Spain, it engages in the republican camp, but it is made prisoner in 1937 with Bilbao, the same year it Marie with Julia Cañedo with which it will have two wire.

In 1946 it becomes acquainted with Amparo Gastón, that which will become his wife many years later, and with which it will write several collections of poetry.

In 1952 it is at the origin of one countryside to the memory of the poet Miguel Hernández, dead 10 years earlier in the pro-Franco jails.

In 1954 it leaves his wife and her family, then 2 years later its work of engineer and the family company to go to live in Madrid with Amparo Gastón and to devote themselves only to the writing.

In 1962 it goes on a journey in France with Collioure in order to meet another large Spanish poet there immigrant in France: Antonio Machado. In 1965 it meets in Madrid the large cuban poet Nicolás Guillén, then made two voyages to Cuba in 1966 and 1967.

In 1967, it becomes acquainted with the Spanish singer, Paco Ibáñez, which will put in music several of its poems like: España went from there , the poesiá are one armed cargada with futuro …

In 1968 it travels to the Brésil, then in 1969 in Italy.

1977, first legislative elections in Spain since the death of Free, Gabriel Celaya is candidate for the Spanish Communist party .

October 14th 1982, he marries that which was his MUSE during 36 years: Amparo Gastón.

In 1986, it receives the National Price of the Spanish Letters given by the Ministry for the Culture. In 1987 it is again with the honor: the National library organizes with Madrid, an exposure entitled: Noticia de Gabriel Celaya .

In 1989 the municipal council of San Sebastian declares it citizen of honor .

1991: its ashes according to its desire will be dispersed with Hernani and San Sebastian.
