Gabriel-Philippe de Froulay

Gabriel-Philippe de Froulay (or Froullay) of Tessé († April 27th 1689), is a French ecclesiastic, bishop of Avranches of 1668 with 1689.

Genealogy

Wire of Rene Ier de Froulay and of Marie d' Escoubleau de Sourdis , married to Chartres on July 22nd 1596, Gabriel-Philippe de Froulay is the puîné brother of Rene II of Froulay (° 1597 - † 1671), count de Tessé, baron de Vernie and of Ambrières, general lieutenant of the king (father of Rene de Froulay de Tessé, Marshal of France ) , and of Charles de Froulay1601 - † November 26th 1671)), large sergeant of the house of the king (August 10th, 1650) then Brigadier .

Ecclesiastical career

Gabriel-Philippe is known as only Abbé of Tessé in a baptismal certificate where it appears in Saint-Denis-with-Gastines in 1645.

He is provided with the abbeys of Trizay, with the Diocèse of Luçon, Angle-on-the Anglin in Poitou, of the deanery of Saint-Émilion, the priory of the Pertre, and is finally promoted with the évêché of Avranches in September 1668. Devoted on January 20th 1669 in the church of the Breaking into leaf, in Paris, by the archbishop of Rouen, François Harlay de Champvallon, it took possession on April 13rd 1669.

Pursuant to the intentions of Andre de Froulay , his grandfather, it founded, on October 29th 1680, a mass “each Sunday and feste” in the vault of Rigardon , for the utility of the close campaigns.

It signed the declaration of the clergy of 1682, published the same year of the statutes diocesans, and died in Avranches on April 27th 1689.
