Gabriel-François Senior

Gabriel-François Senior , born with Paris the May 20th 1726 and died in Saint-Pétersbourg the March 13rd 1806, is a painter French specialized in the history, the religion and the portrait.

Wire of a Parisian tapestry maker, he works in the workshop of Carle van Loo. He obtains the Prix of Rome in 1748. He is received with the Royal Académie of Painting and of Sculpture in 1759 and exerts there as professor starting from 1776. It had as raises Olivier Perrin.

It carried out a succession of paintings according to Iliade to be used as models with the tapestries of the Gobelin.

Painter of the king, it leaves France for the Russia in 1792 where he becomes painter of Catherine II of Russia and of Paul I {{er}}: he was named there director of the Academy of the fine arts and there carried out several remarkable works and there decorated several imperial palaces and trained Russian painters.

the decoration of the Saint-Gregoire vault to the Invalid with Paris,
Holy Genevieve and the Miracle of Burning the (1767) in the Saint-Roch church with Paris,
the Order of the Holy Spirit to the museum of Versailles,
the high altar of the vault of the Military academy (Paris) the Last Communion of saint Louis .

At the museum of Parma (Italy) table is preserved the death of Virginia .
