GNU Debugger
GNU Debugger also called gdb is the Débogueur standard project GNU. It is portable on many systems Unix type and functions for several computer programming languages, like the C, the C++ and FORTRAN. He was written by Richard Stallman in 1988. gdb is a Free software, distributed under the license GNU LPG.
Gdb functions on many different architectures, and allows the distant debugging (via a connection series or of a connection IP) of application turning on a target platform distinct from the development platform. This possibly on two types of different processors.
Gdb allows déboguer a program in the course of execution (by unrolling it instruction by instruction or by examining and modifying its data), but it also allows a debugging post-mortem by analyzing a file core which represents the contents of an abnormally finished program.
The interface of Gdb is a simple line of order, but there exist frontal applications which offer an graphical interface much more convivial to him. The utility ddd for example makes it possible to click on a line of code directly in the listing to place a stagnation point there whereas gdb only requires the seizure of the number of line. Also let us note that gdb is often called upon in background by the environments of development integrated like Eclipse.
