GConf

GConf is a system employed by the graphic Environnement GNOME to store the data of configuration of the office of the applications in a Database.

The latter employs by defect a system of file S XML, stored in the repertory ~/.gconf. Gconf can also employ others “backends”, such as for example a waiter LDAP.

When a software wishes to change a parameter, it calls upon the demon gconfd. If this parameter is shared between several applications, gconfd communicates the change directly to them in a transparent way.

The Logiciel Gconf-editor is provided to allow the users informed to sail in the base of data, to consult the documentation of the parameters and to modify them.
