Gō Nagai

Gō Nagai (永井豪, Nagai Gō ), born on September 6th 1945 with Wajima (輪島), is a famous Mangaka with the Japan.

During its convalescence of a serious disease, it publishes Kuro No shishi ( Black Lion ) and is noticed at 20 years by Ishimori Shotaro which chooses it as assistant.

After titles like Meakashi Polikichi (1967) and Harenchi Gakuen (1968), it founds in 1970 its own animation and publisher, Dynamic Productions.
Under this label, it will publish Abashiri Family , Kiku No Suke and Getter Robo .

It publishes in 1972 two major works, Devilman and Mazinger Z , as well as a third in 1973, Violence Jack :

  • Mazinger Z (マジンガー Z - Majinga zetto) will launch the kind Mecha in the universe manga. It revolutionizes the kind by introducing several elements then unknown of the Shogun Warriors : the robot, according to its pilot, is a tool bienvaillant or quarrelsome, and finally the use of a whole arsenal of weapons actuated by vocal orders, principle, inspired by the Japanese all-in wrestlers déclamant the name of their attacks, which will become a rule for all the other series to come.

  • Devilman (デビルマン - Debiruman) is a Manga treating violent enough Démonologie for a more mature public. For the anecdote, Gō Nagai put an end prematurely to another series of demons published in the Bokura magazine from January in May 1971, Mao Dante (魔王ダンテ - Maō Dante), inspired much by the the Divine comedy of Dante to harness itself with Devilman . If this manga does not have an enormous notoriety on our premises, it should however be noted that it one of more is read and republished in Japan.

  • Violence Jack (バイオレンスジャック - Baiorensu Jakku) is the precursor of the Post-apocalyptic hero “”, quite front Mad max (1979) or Hokuto No Ken (北斗の拳) (1982) which will be largely inspired some. Without revealing the intrigue, this series makes following Devilman , and is posed like a bible of sadism in any kind. Its hero, who puts himself in search of an adversary stronger than him, is known only of some initiates in France but is popular, of course in his fatherland, and, in Italy where it is published first once in 2001, then, one second time, fine 2005, profiting from a superb edition, in 7 volumes, at D/books subsidiary of D/visual.

Gō Nagai is also the author, inter alia, of Cutey Honey (キューティーハニー - Kyūtī Hanī), ( Cherry Miel in France), beautiful androïde with the capacities transmorphic and of Shutendoji (手天童子 - Shuten dōji), semi-human young man semi-demon, which faces creatures, stranger ones than the others, coming from another dimension. But it is especially known in France for its UFO Robot Grendizer (UFO ロボグレンダイザー - Yūfō robo Gurendaizā), diffused in the hexagon under the name of Goldorak and which is not other than the third shutter of its trilogy of super robots with Great Mazinger (グレートマジンガー - Gureito Majinga) and Mazinger Z . Go Nagai will take again the wire of its robots a few years after our Goldorak : God Mazinger (ゴッドマジンガー - goddo majinga), which will be adapted in animated in 1984 by the TMS for 23 episodes, and much more recently Mazinkaiser , in 2001, for a short series of 7 OAV, with one 8th opus carried out in 2003. Always in the kind matched , it Co-signed the scenario, with Ken Ichikawa (石川賢一 - Ishikawa Kenichi), of the saga Getter robot (ゲッターロボ - Gettā Robo).

Principal works of the mangaka are inspired very largely by the Greek Mythologie because of its passion for mythical civilizations. Another source of inspiration as the illustrator Gustave Doré influenced much its drawings, in particular and especially those of Devilman .
