Günther Uecker

Günther Uecker (born on March 13rd, 1930 in Wendorf, in Germany) is a German artist who made known himself for his work in painting and the sculpture. It is particularly famous to have worked with nails which it fixes on its sculptures. A share of its work forms a unit with the kinetic art.

Günther Uecker initially studied the art of 1949 to 1953 in Wismar and Kunstakademie of Berlin - Weißensee. From 1953 to 1957, it went in Kunstakademie of Düsseldorf. It is there that it starts to use nails of which the provision makes it possible to play with the light and the shades.

In 1961, Uecker belongs to the group of artists " ZERO" , launched by Heinz Mack und Otto Piene, He collaborates then with Gerhard Richter in the setting in scene of " places of life in the musées". In 1970 it is selected por to represent the Germany with the Biennale de Venise with Thomas Lenk, Heinz Mack and Karl-Georg Pfahler.

Since the years 1980, Uecker integrates into its artistic reflection the political questions and environmental of Tchernobyl to the Iraq.

Since 1976 Uecker is Professor in Kunstakademie of Düsseldorf. Günther Uecker is the brother of the artist Rotraut who was the wife of Yves Klein. He knew this French artist, just as Arman at which Rotraut, artist and young girl with the par on the Riviera, met Yves Klein.
