Günther Rall

Günther Rall is a pilot of hunting German exceptional which gained 275 victories during the Second world war during which it was cut down eight times and was wounded three times. It is classified with the third world rank of the ace of the military aviation. It accepted the Croix of iron for its exploits.

Biography

Born the March 10th 1918 in the town of Gaggenau in Black Forest of a family of merchant, it engaged in the Wehrmacht in 1936 where it returned to the college of war of Dresden. In 1938, it returned like fighter pilot in the Luftwaffe with the rank of lieutenant within the Jagdgeschwader 52.

Second world war

Its first victory take place on May 18th, 1940, during the Battle of France against a Curtiss H.75 of the French air force.

During its participation in the Battle of England or its unit had large losses, it was promoted Oberleutnant the 1940.

Its formation was then engaged in the Campagne of Balkans whose Bataille of Crete before taking part in the Front of the East or Günther had 272 of its 275 victories against planes of the Voénno Vozdouchnyé Sily.

The JG 52 was affected with the Groupe of Southern armies at the time of the Opération Barbarossa.

November 28th, 1941, it obtains its 36e victory.

It was Prisoner of war in 1945 after the capitulation of its country and returned to the civil life after the dissolution of Wehrmacht.

After war

After this conflict, it passed (with difficulty) the civil pilot's license.

In 1955, during the creation of the Bundeswehr in West Germany, it réengaga in the new German air force.

it directed the program of F-104G " Starfighter" as from 1956 then it finished its military career as chief of staff of Bundes Luftwaffe into 1970/1971, inspector of this weapon between 1971 and 1973, before being military attach3e the West Germany in NATO between 1973 and 1975.
