Günther Herbig

Günther Herbig is a German Leader , born with Ústí nad Labem (today in Czech Republic) the November 30th 1931.

Biography

It begins its musical studies in Central Europe where it studies with Hermann Abendroth, Hermann Scherchen and Herbert von Karajan, then its career begins from chief to the operas of Weimar and Potsdam. In 1972, it is named Musical director of the Philharmonic orchestra of Dresden and occupies the same station with the Berliner Sinfonie-Orchester with East Berlin of 1977 to 1983.

Approaching Western Europe, it becomes in 1982 first chief invited of the Philharmonic orchestra of the BBC, before being invited to direct the greatest formations like the Symphony orchestra of London, the royal Philharmonic orchestra, the Orchestre of Paris, the Orchestre of the French-speaking Switzerland, the Orchestre of the Residence of $the Hague and the Philharmonie of Israel.

Before emigrating definitively with the the United States in 1984, it directs as a principal chief invited the Symphony orchestra of Dallas since 1979. Named with the head of the Symphony orchestra of Strait in 1984, he undertakes rounds through the United States, then in Europe (in 1989). In 1991, it directs the Symphony orchestra of Toronto to Europe, in the United States, to Asia and Australia.

Repertory

The most famous recordings of Günther Herbig were carried out with orchestras of East Germany, in particular the symphonies of Haydn, Brahms Schubert and especially Mahler.
