Work

Exaggeration like method

The strange methodical exaggeration of Günther Anders first of all seems to fall under this problematic report/ratio with the traditional notion of the truth. What more is, Anders does not justify its critical step by reasons metaphysics, logics, or even epistemological or linguistic. First of all, the exaggeration of Anders corresponds to a political intention:

“the nice one is thus a political category.

contraction: the activity of those which lead the facts minimized to the height of the visible one, which make their format appropriate to the repressed phenomena, which correct disfigured, is indicated of `exaggeration'. The expression is of a use if current that we do not see any reason not to take it again. If the philosophers, accustomed to work with the naked eye, reject the exaggeration like nonserious - and the majority make it obviously - they are not better by no means, i.e.: they are not less obsolete and ridiculous, that would not be to it virologists who would reject the microscopes, which would thus defend a “virology with the naked eye””. (Günther Anders, Philosophische Logogram , Munich, C.H. Beck, 1965,2002, p. 65; transl. by Thierry Simonelli)

In the optics of a truth like correspondence between thing and thought, object and judgment, the exaggeration appears inadmissible. The thought or the exaggerated judgment does not represent the things such as they are, does not say to be it that it is, but deforms it in its expression. The exaggeration concerns the false speech, of the inadequacy of the things and intellect. In this case, it would undoubtedly not be necessary to be interested more in the exaggeration.

Anders adds nevertheless a new ontological nuance with the traditional epistemic situation: the facts do not appear such as they are, they are minimized. That one does not precipitate to recognize there an alternative of the criticism of traditional knowledge. To quote only one example, Anders is not Kantian with the direction where he would affirm nonan adequacy of principle between the thing in oneself and its phenomenon. Nonthe report/ratio is neither of gasoline, neither of principle, nor even a contingent data. The thing, the world in which Anders is interested is not that of the theory of traditional knowledge, is not the world of nature, or that of the artisanal tools. The world of Anders is that of the “immense accumulation of goods” (Marx).
