Günter Daughters-in-law

Günter Daughters-in-law , born the September 27th 1938 with Ardning, is a Austrian painter . He is one of the founders of the Actionnisme Viennese, movement artistic celebrates for his " actions" radical. The actions initially inspired of the Action Painting, gradually reflect in scene the body of the artists themselves or that of assistants, in kinds of happenings.

The performances of Günter Brus have this of private individual which they reflect in scene its own body and were often marked by the provocation and the transgression of the taboos. Thus, in 1968, at the time of the class action suit Kunst und Revolution (Art and the Revolution) it drank its urine, recovered its body of its excrements, and masturbated by singing the Austrian national anthem; action which was worth six months of prison to him and an exile with Berlin.
In other case it is a strange poetry which emerges from the body of the artist covered with white painting, body divided by a black line. The actions Wiener Spaziergang and Aktion put Diana are representative of this vein. The references and quotations of the Aventures of Gordon Pym of Edgar Allan Poe in its autobiography suggest that the choice of the white color is perhaps influenced by this reading.

Nevertheless, as of its first performance Anna in 1964, they is the ultimate forms of the physical experiment that it puts at the center of the majority of its actions. The attempt at going until its own physical limits, to even exceed them, is the central theme of performances entitled Selbstverstümmelung (self-mutilation), Starrkrampf (tetanus), Tortur (torture) or Zerreißprobe (attempt at car-tearing). This last action put, by its radicality even, end with its performances.

Since the beginning of the Années 1970 it is devoted to the Dessin and the writing, which it sometimes combines in Bild-Dichtungen (table-poems). The radical experiment of the actions is not always absnte as Irrwisch testifies some where thanks to the drawing imagination does not have any more limit in handling of the bodies.
