Gérontoxon
see also: Etymology of Gérontoxon
The gérontoxon , also called " senile arc of the Cornea " , is an opacity forming a ring (or a portion of ring) of color gray-blanchâtre to the periphery of the cornea at the people of Middle Age or the elderly. It is due to a lipidic infiltration of the corneal stroma. With the age, this opacity progresses until forming a complete, separate ring limb by a clear zone of the cornea. In the event of appearance at a young person or of Middle Age, one will speak about embryotoxon (the ring has more marked white color then). At the man, the embryotoxon is often associated with a cardiac disease.
