Biography

Become chief of chalk-lining in 1267 after the death of his/her Adémar older brother, Géraud de Maulmont undertakes the constitution and the acquisition of a vast inheritance. From 1272, he becomes lord of Châlucet, Châlus, Courbefy, Bré, Bourdeilles, Saint-Pardoux-the-River and Montfort in Burgundy. He also had goods in Limoges, a manor beside the castrum of Aixe, a private mansion near to Louvre in Paris.

He engaged of important work in all his properties or castles. Thus it made build, between 1270 and 1280, the vast strengthened palate of Châlucet. It also undertaken about 1290 the reorganization of the castle of Montfort.

But Géraud de Maulmont is also known to have been a violent man, racketeer, it accumulated the prestigious sources of revenue and stations under the plunder and liquidations of the debts of its debtors. Moreover it perceived pensions of princes eager to profit from his influence near the king (the Viscount of Rochechouart, the count of Poitiers, the count of Artois).

With its death in 1299 are its nephews Hélie, Pierre and Guillaume de Maulmont which inherit its immense fortune.
