Géraud V of Armagnac

Géraud V of Lomagne and Armagnac , died in 1219, count d' Armagnac and of Fezensac of 1215 with 1219, was wire of Bernard of Armagnac and Lomagne, Viscount of Fezensaguet, and Geraldeise (or Geralda) of Foix. Certain historians and genealogists, including the famous Anselme father of Sainte-Marie, confuse it with Géraud IV, known as Trenqueléon, count d' Armagnac and of Fézensac. For this reason its nephew Géraud who became count de Lomagne is sometimes numbered Géraud V , instead of Géraud VI .

In 1182, his/her large uncle the count Bernard IV of Armagnac, without child, gave to his nephew Bernard de Lomagne, the father of Géraud V, the Viscount of Lomagne, and heir instituted it if he would die without children. But Géraud IV Trenqueléon was born in the years which followed. It is only into 1215 that Géraud IV Trenqueléon died, without children, and Géraud V then became count d' Armagnac and of Fezensac. The June 8th 1215, to avoid the destiny of the count Raymond VI of Toulouse, it recognized vassal of Simon de Montfort. In 1217, the Toulouse ones revolted against Simon de Montfort, and Raymon returned in its field. Simon called with his Géraud help which would have agreed to abstain from but did not dare it. Their troops made the seat of the city and subjected the surrounding country, and the the Isle-Jordan was put under sequestration between the hands of Géraud. Simon was killed during the head office of Toulouse. Amaury de Montfort was obstinated eight month without succeeding in taking the city and finishes, to save the face, by yielding its rights to Louis, the son of Philippe-Auguste which became thus the suzerain of Armagnac and Fézensac. He died shortly after.

  • Pierre Gerard († 1241), count d' Armagnac and of Fezensac
  • Bernard V († 1245), count d' Armagnac and of Fezensac after his/her brother
  • Mascarose I {{Re}} († 1249), countess of Armagnac and Fezensac, married to Arnaud Odon († 1256), Viscount of Lomagne.
