Gélise

The Gélise is a left Affluent of the Baïse in Gascogne in the south-west of the France.

Etymology

The name of Gelise is based on a root Aquitanique Jel announcing River.

Geography

It takes its source in the Gers (32) in Cahuzères in the north of Lupiac, then runs out towards the North-West in direction of Eauze. It drains the Gabardan around Castelnau-with Auzan then forks towards the North-East where it constitutes a natural border between the forest of the Landes of Gascogne and slopes of the Ténarèze and the Pays of Albret.

It is thrown in the Baïse just after its passage to the foot of the strengthened mill of Lavardac in Lot-et-Garonne.
