Furough Farrokhzad

Forough Farrokhzad (1934 - 1967) فروغفرخزاد is one of the major contemporary poétesses in Iran.

Born in a family from soldiers with Teheran in 1934, Forough marries Parviz Shapour, Iranian satirist of reputation when it is 16 years old, then moves with Ahvaz to follow her husband with whom it learns painting. It is as from this moment that it started to correspond with magazines of reputation. Its first collection of poetries, اسير ( “the prisoner” ), is published in 1955. One feels there the broad influence of Fereydoon Moshiri, Nader Naderpour and Fereydoon Tavalalli.

Its following collections are ديوار ( “the wall” ), published in 1956 and عصيان ( “the rebellion” ), published in 1958. It is during this same year that it meets Ibrahim Golestan, celebrates writer and Iranian scenario writer and that it starts to cooperate with him.

Forough will continue cinematographic studies in England in 1959 then plays in a film entitled the proposal in 1960. Forough will turn over to England the following year.

She moves with Tabriz in 1962 and carries out her film خانهسياهاست ( “the house is black” ), a film on the life of the Lépreux. The film gains the documentary Grand Prix with the Oberhausen Festival in 1963. She plays the same year in a part of Luigi Pirandello entitled " Six characters in search of auteur". She will publish this same year 1963 her collection تولدىديگر ( “Another birth” ) which indeed represents a new birth for poetry Persian.

Forough visits the Germany, the France and the Italy in 1964. In 1965, Bernardo Bertolucci carries out a film based on the history of its life.

Forough Farrokhzad dies the February 14th 1967 in an car accident. Its death removes with contemporary poetry Persian one as of his larger artists. Its last collection of poems ايمانبياوريمبهاغازفصلسرد ( “Let accept us the beginning of the cold season” ), which is undoubtedly the perfect prototype of contemporary poetry Persian, is published in a posthumous way. In December 2006, a translation of selection of its English poems, made by Maryam Dilmaghani was published on line to commemorate the 40eme birthday of its death.

A poem of Forough

The bird is mortal

I am depressed,
Ah! I am depressed
I go to the balcony
and I pass my fingers
on the tended skin of the night.
the lights of relation are extinct.
the lights of relation are extinct
Nobody will not present to me to the sun
Nobody will not take along me to the evening of the sparrows
Garde the flight to the spirit,
the bird is mortal
