Furnace bridge of the Twelve gods
On the Furnace bridge of the Twelve Gods , one finds a dedication which can be dated between -490 and -470 before our era. By the Twelve Gods , one supposes that are aimed at the Olympian twelve, but it is not certain.
The Furnace bridge was famous during the Antiquité, as an asylum and a refuge. For example in -591, of the ambassadors of Platées asked for the assistance of Athens against Thèbes this furnace bridge.
Association with the Pisistratides is attested by Thucydide. Pisistrate, as a Archonte, had dedicated the Furnace bridge of the Twelve Gods but this inscription was later on unobtrusive by the Athenians.
It is as starting from this furnace bridge as one calculated all the distances, the furnace bridge appearing like “item zero”.
