The funitel is a system of Ski lift with continuous motion double-monocable (DMC) with broad way.
The disengageable vehicles, as on the Telpher carrier S, are suspended with two cables carrier-tractors forming a way of approximately 3,20m. The vehicles transport about thirty passengers in general. The cables constituting the way can be made up of two loops distinct or a double loop from only one cable. The drive of these two loops of cables can be assured by 2 synchronized distinct winches or 1 winch with a Poulie with double throat. The advantages of the funitel are a great stability with the wind, due to the broad way and a raised flow, the cabins transporting 30 people being able beings more or less spaced on the line. By-against the complexity of the system, makes two installations in one, makes of them maintenance relatively expensive.
The first funitel was built with Valley-Thorens by Denis Creissel and the companies Reel and Städeli-Top spin. Two others funitels are in service in Suisse (Verbier and Notch-Montana) and several others in France (Valley-Thorens, Plagne, Alpe d' Huez), in Austria (Hintertux, Ischgl, St Anton), one with the the United States (Squaw Valley) and one in Greece (Mont Parnes).
