Funicular SMC
funicular SMC was built in 1911 to rejoin since Sierre, the ski station Notch-Montana (Suisse). September 29th, 1908 the company of the funicular was made up with an aim of installing a funicular.
The distance between the two east cities of approximately 4 kilometers, which was at the time a long distance for a funicular, especially the problem was the cable of 4 kilometers. Thus therefore lôn built two segments which met with Saint-Maurice-of-Lacquers, where the transfer between the two funiculars could be done.
April 1st 1997, the funicular was closed to be able to carry out a complete restoration of the installation and to amalgamate the 2 segments so that they do nothing any more but one of them. December 16th, 1997, it was reopened with new cars and run time was decreased by 30" to 12 ' without needing to change funicular!
Since this date, the funicular of the SMC is longest of Switzerland with: 4192 meters and a unevenness of 931 meters.
