Functionalities of the navigator Operated

This article presents in detail the functionalities of the navigator Opera.

Tabbed browsing

Opera proposes the tabbed browsing, and has a real interface multi-documents. That means that several Web pages can be open in only one and even window of the application, and can be redimensionnées, moved, piled up and posted cascades about it as for the windows of normal applications in the operating systems. The bar of the pages posts a list of the pages open in a window, and to click on the miter of the page causes its posting in the foreground.

It is also possible to work without an interface multi-documents.

Blocking of the intruding windows

Opera makes it possible to the users to authorize or not the sites to post intruding windows (pop-ups in english language version). By defect, Opera blocks all the not requested intruding windows. The modes of control of the intruding windows are:

to post all the intruding windows;
not to apply any control;
to open the intruding windows in background;
all the intruding windows are open in background;
to block the not requested intruding windows;
to block the intruding windows which are not related to an action of the user, such as clicking on a bond (behavior by defect);
no window intruding is posted.

Since version 8, Opera posts a warning when an intruding window is blocked: to click on this warning causes its posting. In addition to the list of the currently closed windows, Opera proposes a menu separated with a list from the intruding windows blocked during the session in progress.

Reader of flow

Opera supports flows with the formats RSS and, since its version 8, Atom.

The users are informed availability of one or more flow on a page by a small blue icon containing the term “ rss ”. Since version 9 the icon changed color and is now orange. The disadvantage of this system is that it is not possible to consult the Web site since which the user is downloading several items.

Function of zoom

With the difference of the majority of the other navigators, who allow to increase or reduce the size of the only text, Opera has a true function of zoom which makes it possible to increase or to reduce dimensions of all the elements of the Web pages in the same proportions, including contents such as Flash, Java and SVG (Internet Explorer 7 is also equipped with such a function).

However, if Opera is configured in mode “ Adjustment with the largeur ”, the contents other than the text are never increased at the point to exceed limits of the windows.

The level of zoom varies 20 % with 1000 %. It can be modified via a pull-down menu or the keys + and - . It is also possible to modify the level of zoom per defect for all the pages.

Handwriting verification

If your computer lays out of the orthographical software of correction Aspell (free and free) with one or more dictionaries installed, Opera uses them to check the orthography of an email or any other zone of text éditable (as for the cat).

Sessions

Navigation with the keyboard

The voice recognition enables you to control the interface while speaking and to hear a synthesized reading of your documents. This functionality is personnalisable and adaptable according to your needs. The voice is currently available in English and functions under Windows 2000 and XP.

Customer IRC

Since version 7.50, Opera integrates a customer of discussion, in particular for IRC. Customer IRC allows the users at the same time to connect himself to several waiters, thus giving them access to thousands of public living rooms of discussion. He also supports the discussions into private and the transfers of file between users. Personalization

Almost all can be changed in Opera. The short cuts keyboard and mouse can be changed using an internal editor, and them toolbars can be easily modified using the Personnaliser dialog box the toolbars. Starting from versions 9, appears new functionalities: the support of BitTorrent, personalization by site, the easy blocking of publicities, the outline of the pages in the form of labels, the named graphic gadgets Widget S, an editor of source with syntactic coloring, a personalization of the search engines via the interface, the locking of the miters, the management of Server-Feels Vents. Version 9.10 integrates a protection anti-fraud (anti-phishing). Version 9.20 integrates a named functionality SpeedDial which offers, into the opening of a new miter or by the means of numérques short cuts keyboard, the rapid access with the nine preferred sites of the user.
