Frontignan
Frontignan (occitan: Frontinhan ) is a common French, located in the department of the Herault and the area Languedoc-Roussillon. Chief town of canton, it is the fifth city of the department in terms of population, after Montpellier, Béziers, Sète, Lunel. Since December 31st, 2002, it belongs to the Communauté of agglomeration of the Basin of Thau.
The commune is usually called Frontignan Peyrade to associate the excentré district of Peyrade.La Peyrade forever be an autonomous commune, even if it had until 1988 an electoral college separated from Frontignan. Peyrade, while being indeed the district located more close to Sète, is regarded still today by some of its inhabitants as an entity which shares with Frontignan only the communal structure.
Its inhabitants is called Frontignanais. Their nickname is the Blue Ventres .
Geography
The city is located at 7 km in the North-East of the center of Sète, on the road which leads to Montpellier (to 21 km).
The communal territory is bordering on Gigean in north, Vic-la-Gardiole in the North-East, Villeneuve-the-Maguelone on a piece of beach in the east, Sète in south-west, Balaruc-the-Baths and Balaruc-the-Old man in the west. In the south, the commune is bathed by the the Mediterranean it is bordered in the west by the pond of Thau.
The original city and the district of Peyrade are in a wine Plaine , framed by:
- the Scrubland of the Mountain of Gardiole in north,
- of the saline and the pond of Ingril in the east,
- a dune cord at the edge of the Mediterranean arranged in seaside resort in the east (Frontignan-Beach) and in industrial park in the continuity of the port of Sète to the south,
- the pond of Thau in the west.
As regards transportation routes, the city is served on the N112 road and the railroad connecting Montpellier to Sète. To the west, the Trunk road RN300 connects Sète, and thus the commune of Frontigan, with the Autoroute A9. The Canal of the Rhone with Sète starts its first kilometers in the south of Frontignan before passing by a channel arranged in the middle of the pond S héraultais. The railway line Toulouse-Tarascon crosses the territory and has a station with Frontignan.
History
- June 16th, 1642 : the king Louis XIII and Richelieu are found in Frontignan.
- June 25th, 1944 : Bombardment of Sète (marshalling yard), Balaruc (Oil refineries) and Frontignan (Oil refineries) by the 15th USAAF.

Activities
The principal activity is the estival Tourisme with the Seaside resort of Frontignan-Beach, on the Gulf of Lions (Mediterranean).The vine growing until 2001 underwent the mitage by the allotments. The commune is the place of production of the wine AOC muscatel of Frontignan.
Several arranged zones accommodate artisanal industries and companies, of which a part have their activity related to the port of Sète. The Oil refinery created in 1900 became a simple fuel depot in 1986 ().
