Demography

The global population of the area is of 1,2 million inhabitants, of which 530.000 live in the Province of Udine and 300.000 in the Province of Pordenone, the two provinces which compose the the Friuli.

Language

In the Area of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia, the use of the Frioulan is recognized officially by the Italian national standards (law n° 482/1999) and regional (regional law n° 15). This rétho-Romance language is used in the bilingual road signs of {{unit|40|%}} of the municipalities. Two other minority languages are also recognized: the Slovenien and German. In Erto E Casso, in the Dolomites frioulanes, Province of Pordenone, one also speaks very minoritairement the Western ladin. In the south of the Province of Pordenone one speaks also the Italian dialect vénète, just as towards Monfalcone, Province of Gorizia. In the Province of Trieste, the Triestian Italian dialect.

Economy

The morphology of the area constitutes an obstacle for agriculture. Discrete role in the production of corn and beets (sugar). Very specialized vine growing which guarantees wine of high-quality. Breeding of bovines (higher than the local consumption and thus intended for the trade with the other areas). Declining industry. Tourism

The " Friuli Venezia Giulia" is ignored an enough area, which offers many attractions and contrasts: carnic mountains (Dolomites frioulanes, Préalpes and the carnic Alps) and juliennes (Préalpes and the Alps juliennes), green at the houses resembling Austrian country cottages (with many chimneys), hills of the central Friuli towards Udine, wine Collio towards Gorizia, at the Slovenien border, of the landscapes escarpés and sometimes arid in the area of Isontino and Triestian Carso, the plains as far as the eye can see in all low Friuli and of the beaches to fine sand protected by the pine forest.
