Fritz Rumey

Fritz Rumey , born the March 3rd 1891 and dead the September 27th 1918, is a pilot of German Fighter plan having served during the First World War, regarded as a ace of aviation of this period.

With the beginning of the war, Fritz Rumey is useful with the 45e regiment of Infanterie, then with the 3rd regiment of pomegranates on the Russian face . It is in spring 1915 that he manages to obtain a transfer towards the Air force. It begins like observer with F 19.

In 1917, it carries out the great jump by integrating the fighter force. It joined successively Jasta 2, the Boelke flotilla then Jasta 5.

June 26th 1918, for its 25e success, it cuts down the Canadian ace Eduard Eaton.

Rumey will be wounded twice: August 25th, 1918 and then on September 24th right after having taken down its 45e victory. It is however found three days later on board sound Fokker VII. It will be its last vol. Percuté in full flight by S.E.5 of the South-African George Lawson, it is constrained to jump in the vacuum to the top of Neuville-Saint-Rémy. Its Parachute will not open. Fritz Rumey dies at the 27 years age.
